Ranch Hand

Peace Valley Ranch has been in the Ranching business for over 50 years.  We pride ourselves in owning and operating the last remaining "Western Style" Ranch East of the Mississippi - where we still manage our Black Angus Cattle herd from horseback.    With 120 head of cattle and a 40 horse herd, you can just imagine how busy we can be - and believe it or not - not a stall to clean out!  All this and we are only 1.5 hours north of Toronto in the beautiful foothills of Mulmur, Ontario!

We are looking for a fun, energetic, strong and engaging person to join our crew.  This person’s main responsibility will be to support Ranch Management through our very busy spring/summer season (May - September) - we can talk about staying longer!

Responsibilities

  • General operation of Ranch machinery
  • Pasture fence monitoring, maintenance and repairs. Fences include rail, page wire & 2-3 strand electric wire
  • Monitor cattle including overall herd health, calf checks, water checks, mineral/salt block delivery, pasture checks
  • Work with team sorting cattle as necessary to tag, vaccinate, etc.; as well as moving cattle in accordance with grazing requirements
  • Monitor horse herd including overall health, water checks, mineral/salt block delivery, pasture checks and moving horse herd in accordance with grazing requirements
  • Participate in Haying (small squares, large rounds, hauling bales, unloading/stacking small squares)
  • Repair and maintenance of ranch structures: buildings, fences
  • Work with pumps associated with water operations
  • Trail clearing
  • Yard and pasture maintenance
  • Firewood cutting and gathering

General Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Farming or Ranching background
  • Background in animal husbandry
  • Haying experience – driving tractors, balers, wagons, stacking
  • Experience with trimmers (string and blade)
  • Equipment maintenance knowledge / mechanical, electrical aptitude
  • Can be physically demanding work involving heavy lifting (50–100lbs) and carrying
  • A willingness to learn, and adapt to new environments
  • Safety and detail oriented
  • Adaptable—thrives in a constantly changing work environment
  • Strong work ethic, self motivated, easily work independently or as part of a team
  • Solid communication and analytical skills
  • Current Drivers License
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for this position
