Well Howdy, Wranglers!

It is officially spring and we can’t help but be looking forward to warmer days, more sunshine, green grass, and our upcoming riding season. 2025 was a big year for us, with cattle prices still staying strong and such a tremendous amount of interest in our trail rides. Last March brought us the devastation of the ice storm, as we were unfortunately right in the middle of the hardest hit area. We were out of power for 7 days, still calving and still needing to feed all of our animals; the physical and mental toll of such an event exhausting all of us as we looked around everyday and saw so much work needing to be done. Our forests still bare the result and the landscape will forever be changed. We were reminded about the power of community, as HydroOne worked tirelessly to get the power back on and we leaned on our wonderful family of leasers, boarders, and neighbours who came to help us get downed branches off of fence lines. The damage was so severe, for the first time ever we had to hire a crew for the summer that was strictly dedicated to tree damage cleanup as we hustled to get fence lines clear in the spring so we could get all the animals out to grass. Ranching is beautiful but not without some struggle!

We are now well through the majority of our calving season, with 90 live calves on the ground. Every year watching them grow is a joy, most now starting to munch on hay; doing as mamma does. The horses are ready to come out of their winter slumber, all the horses going in to spring in great shape. We acquired quite a few new horses over the last 6 months and we are really excited to see what they’ve got! So far they are all great additions to our herd and we love to see how new horses embrace their lifestyle here. One of our newest additions, Finn, is a coming 2 year old Paint X Quarter Horse who is the first horse we have ever taken down to OVC, the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph. As a “cryptorchid” colt, his one testicle simply would not drop and the only way to have it removed was through surgery- we didn’t need any of our mares being bred by this little guy come spring! The staff there were amazing and Finn came out a gelding with no issues.

We have our summer wranglers lined up, with help coming this year from Norway, Switzerland, and Toronto. We are still looking for a young local ranch hand to help us with the ranch’s day to day tasks. If you know of someone who is wanting to learn about ranch work, please reach out to us.

Our Cattle Clinics continue to be a huge hit and our 2026 dates are already sold out. Thank you! The response to this fun event every year is always astonishing and we are happy that participants continue to enjoy the experience. There really is nothing like spending a gorgeous summer morning playing around with cows out in the countryside.

Our website is officially up to date with current prices and ranch offerings. We still have our popular private 2 hour trails for all levels of experience and quite a few events for intermediate to advanced riders looking for some fun such as our River Ride and County Forest Loping Ride. If you are looking to get out and spend some time in the saddle this summer be sure to reach out!

We also added a fun package for our Little Wranglers to get them out for some horsey time. For 75 minutes they can learn all about horses starting with grooming, saddling, and riding. This is for our youngsters who are too young to hit the trail, ages 5- 11.

You can also check out our updated “About Our Horses” page, a fan favourite, as you can take a look at the horses currently calling Peace Valley Ranch home.

And, of course, be sure to check us out and follow us on Instagram @rawhideadventuresontario & Facebook @RawhideAdventures for daily ranchy updates!

As always, we thank each and every one of you for your support of our place here. Every ride that is booked, every beef side that we sell, all directly supports our way of life here. Without you there would be no us! We appreciate the wonderful community that surrounds us and we are looking forward to meeting more wonderful people out on the trail this summer.

Happy Trails, The Rawhide Team
