Hours of Operation

We are open mainly for the fair-weather riding season! May 1 - Oct 31. We generally are closed for the month of November, through our Calving Season but you can always send us a note to see if we can get out and ride!

About Our Rides

We ride by reservation only! Once booked, we expect that you will be here for your ride 'cause we will!
We will try and get to know you even before you come out to the Ranch. We will ask you for some very important pieces of information so that we can ensure that we have the most suitable horse for your ride. We need to know your Age, Height, Weight, and Riding Experience. To better determine your Riding Experience, here is our honesty scale:

  • Greenhorn: Never Touched a Horse
  • Beginner: Ridden on a couple of Trail Rides; used to ride; went to summer camp...
  • Intermediate: Takes riding lessons, rides once a week (at a minimum) OR may even have own horse but only rides once or twice a week
  • Advanced: Owns own horse, rides every day, simply cannot be without horses! Wants to bring horse to the Ranch!

We have some pretty great horses. They are schooled in different aspects of ranch work and pleasure riding and will match up to your level; even challenge you if you so wish. We take single riders, especially the less confident ones, to groups of eight. We don't mix bookings*, you book the time and it is yours exclusively. We prefer to ride side by side and not trail ride one behind the other, (as terrain and the skill of the participants allow). *If you are a solo rider and want us to mix your booking, we will try an find like-capability riders.

PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE!  Give yourself ample time to find the Tim Hortons on the way up!   You can arrive a bit earlier to get the paperwork done and help brush horses.  Early or late, we will return to the Ranch as per your booking!

Our Riding Restrictions

We do have age restrictions: Unless they are Intermediate to Advanced on our honesty scale, children under 12 are not physically and emotionally equipped for our main riding adventures.

We also have a weight restriction - sorry, no riders over 250lbs.

  • Cash
  • Personal Cheques (made payable to Rawhide Adventures Inc.)
  • We currently DO NOT accept Debit Cards or VISA Debit...

We expect a 50% deposit in order to book your date followed by the balance on the day of your reservation.

If using eTransfer, we will email you the instructions.

If paying by credit card, we will process your deposit payment over the phone.

If paying by cheque, your cheque can be mailed to us. We will hold your date giving you first right of refusal should someone come along before your cheque arrives!

Once your deposit is processed, the reservation is yours!

Our Cancellation Policy

Sometimes weather wreaks havoc on all our best intentions; however please let us be the judge of what weather is bad!

The weather up here can be way better than what you are experiencing at home. We ride in most conditions (except snowstorms, torrential downpours and lightening!) and we will provide you with an outback coat if necessary.

If you really must cancel your ride: Please call us and let us know at least 48 hours in advance of your booking.  We will apply your deposit to a future date/time that works for both our calendars.

If we need to rebook because Mother Nature won't let us ride: we will rebook your ride and apply your deposit to that future date/time that works for both our calendars.

What to Wear…

For some crazy reason, this year was the year of the fashion statement! Even though we tell people what to wear, and we direct them here for information on what to wear, some people chose to do their own thing and came back from their ride with scratched arms or scratched cold ankles!

We ask you to choose your attire carefully - and follow our guidelines as what you wear will definitely affect your riding comfort!

So, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes...here are our suggestions:

  • Headgear

    • We provide helmets but if you have your own bring it because it probably fits you the best!
    • Please tie long hair back - riding with your hair whipping in the wind is fun - not so when it tangles in branches!
    • Leave your dangly jewelry at home - we will never find it if you lose it out there!
  • Underwear

    • Women - please  consider a sport bra
    • Men - do not wear boxer shorts - you will be soary oops sorry!
  • Tops

    • We do a lot of bush riding so long sleeved shirts are the best
    • Remember to outfit yourself with a top fitting for the season but please no tube tops or camisoles
  • Pants

    • Comfortable jeans are the best choice
    • Gentlemen: pants with crotches at the knees will simply NOT work!
    • PLEASE! No shorts,Capris or silky/nylon yoga pants!
  • Footwear

    • Boots with a small heel are preferred
    • A good running shoe is better than hiking boots
    • PLEASE no 6" heeled fashion boots
    • PLEASE wear socks!
    • And make sure your socks cover your ankles!
  • Seasonal Wear:

    • The Snow comes early here - and it is about 5 degrees cooler here through the fall and winter!
    • If you have gloves bring them!
    • A jacket appropriate for the weather
    • Ski Long underwear if you have it
    • PLEASE wear socks!
    • And make sure your socks cover your ankles! I cannot believe I have to repeat this one!
